Axiom Group’s dedicated research and development labs bring together automotive part engineers, designers, tooling experts, and even coders to creatively solve our clients’ most difficult program issues. Our team works with multiple manufacturers to help innovate, prototype, and test any automotive component from Class-A exterior, interior, and functional components to closeouts, powertrain and electrification.
Have a design problem you don’t know how to solve? Axiom’s in-house R&D team is here to lend our full weight to rapidly prototype, test, and create a solution that gets you moving forward.
We are always looking for the next advancement in product design. Our teams have pioneered new methods for seamless 2-shot injection molding, long glass fibre content assemblies, and more.Â
Because Axiom is vertically integrated, our R&D teams can anticipate the needs at each step of the manufacturing process, making sure your solution doesn’t need to be fixed further down the road.Â
In-house testing allows for greater control, timing, and transparency throughout development, giving you the ability to get to market faster with a product that you know will perform.
Axiom Group’s innovation labs are directly integrated with our design, tooling, and program management teams to offer world-class product design with lightning speed.
Axiom Group never backs down from a problem. Over the years, our team has designed and developed several unique products that support client needs while also going on to become their own stand-alone companies.
Faced with not being able to find a factory monitoring solution that fit our needs and didn’t break the bank, Axiom’s engineers began the daunting task of creating their own best-of-breed solution. After three years of testing and refinement on the Axiom factory floors, Smart Attend entered the market. Today, Smart Attend is the Industry 4.0 answer for dozens of manufacturers worldwide who were similarly seeking a better solution to production monitoring and performance improvement.
In 2018, Axiom Group’s research and design teams asked what an off-road EV would look like if redesigned from the ground up. The result? Axiom’s custom-built AX8 off-road ATV which offers a rugged and durable design with a fully electric drive train. The AX8 features groundbreaking designs that will make waves for years to come. Early in the COVID-19 global pandemic, Axiom recognized that there was a significant need for high-quality, reusable, and easy to clean face shields. Putting their R&D team to work, Axiom developed, tested, and shipped to market Canada’s only injection-molded PolyCarbonate reusable and recyclable face shield – in less than three months. Approved as a Class 1 Medical Device by Health Canada, the Axiom PPE face shield offers an optically clear shield, sanitizable foam comfort band, and the largest covered area ensuring the ongoing safety of wearers.Â
Following six years of intensive collaboration with the Multifunctional Composites Manufacturing Laboratory (MCML) at the University of Toronto (U of T), Axiom is proud to introduce AX Gratek PP40, a groundbreaking material that sets a new standard for lightweight, high-performance structural composites.
Engineered as a next-generation alternative to traditional glass-filled polypropylene, AX Gratek PP40 delivers exceptional mechanical strength with significantly reduced weight, supporting the global shift towards cleaner, more energy efficient transportation.
As the global push for net-zero emissions intensifies, the demand for lighter, stronger and more sustainable materials has never been higher. AX Gratek PP40 directly addresses this need; this patent-pending proprietary hybrid formulation achieves an 18% reduction in weight while delivering a 20% improvement in structural performance, along with enhanced thermal management surpassing current industry standards. The result is a multifunctional material that reduces energy consumption, extends vehicle range, and meets the rigorous demands of structural automotive applications.
The partnership between Axiom and the University of Toronto has been instrumental in bringing this breakthrough material to life. By combining the expertise of Axiom’s leading engineers with MCML researchers at U of T who drew inspiration from nature’s unparalleled engineering through hierarchical architecture, the collaboration overcame crucial technical challenges and unlocked new frontiers in material science.
